GRAPHITE SKY AND CHARCOAL SEA.
Videos 1 and 2
Graphite powder was used for the sky and was applied with a large, flat acrylic brush. Cotton wool pads were used to blend the graphite powder into the paper.
The sea was rendered initially in vine charcoal, then compressed charcoal. Wolff Carbon pencils and charcoal pencils were used for detail and erasers were used to take out highlights.
WATER DROPLETS ON A HOSTA LEAF
The dark shadow underneath the droplet is rendered in Onyx pencil. A mixture of graphite pencil grades between H and 3B were used within the droplet. To create texture, a B pencil was used on its side to pick up the 'tooth' of the paper.
AMMONITE VIDEOS 1 AND 2
Sgraffito technique was used in both of these videos to make an indentation into the paper. This is then shaded over, leaving white areas which with further rendering can be made to appear as if they project outwards. Graphite pencils between H and 3B were used, often on the side to pick up the 'tooth' of the paper and a technique called 'squirkling' was used for further texture.

PRIMROSE PETAL IN GRAPHITE POWDER AND PENCIL
The shape of the petals were drawn out in graphite pencil first, then graphite powder was applied with a round brush gradually.
A cotton wool pad was used to brush off excess graphite powder and also to blend the powder into the surface.
A putty eraser was used to take out highlights.

PANSY PETAL IN GRAPHITE POWDER AND PENCIL
The background behind the petal was rendered initially in 3B pencil and blended out with a combination of 3B - B grade pencils.
Graphite powder was applied to the petal and built up in layers and H/HB/B pencils were used to build up additonal texture along with a pointed tip eraser.
